Types, symptoms and treatment of diabetes
Diabetes is a disease in which the person suffers from high blood sugar. It can be because of two reasons. The first is that the body is not capable of producing enough insulin. The second reason is that the cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced by the body.
Diabetes is of two types. The first is the type 1 diabetes. This type of diabetes occurs when the body is not capable of producing insulin. People suffering from this type of diabetes will have to inject insulin. These people will also have to follow dietary and exercise routine. The second type of diabetes is the type 2 diabetes. People with this kind of diabetes do not respond to the insulin that is produced. Here the cells are incapable of using the insulin in the proper way. Pregnant women may also experience high blood sugar level. Such women may never have suffered from diabetes before. It can get well after pregnancy.
Type 1 diabetes is usually genetic. Type 2 diabetes occurs due to lifestyle and genetic reasons.
The symptom of diabetes is frequent urination, increase in appetite and thirst. Changes in the shape of the eye lens and blurred vision are other symptoms. Both kind of diabetes are treatable. Type 1 diabetes may be treated by injecting insulin. Weight reduction is the first step to treat type 2 diabetes. These people will have to follow certain dietary and exercise habits. If these methods fail then diabetes is controlled by the use of oral medications. In case the oral medications do not produce the desired results insulin needs to be injected.
Both type of diabetes are untreatable. If the diabetes is not controlled certain complications may develop in the body. These complications are ketoacidosis, hypoglycemia and nonketotic hypersosmolar coma. The long term of diabetes can be cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney, retinal damage, poor healing of wounds, nerve damage and gangrene on the foot.
Type 2 diabetes can be avoided by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and an ideal weight. Type 1 diabetes cannot be avoided.
